For my senior year project, I conducted an after school program for middle school students. In middle school, I realized that children with developmental issues and other children without are completely segregated. They are in completely separate classrooms and aren't able to socialize with other students. I wanted to change this so children can learn at an early age about other children that may not be like them. I organized an after school program for students and facilitated different types of activities for these students to be able to do with one another in a non-academic environment. Many students enrolled and it was a hit. I received a letter from a mother whose child had down syndrome and was enrolled explaining how amazing it was for her child. These children were able to socialize and interact with other students who were completely different mentally and physically. Here is the letter from the parent in regards to my project. I did not provide the name to disclose this parent's privacy.
